Sensory Beans Needs Community Support

Visit Them at the Merrick Street Fair

October 1, 2015
Rachel Roslow and her family have experienced the effects of having a lack of recreational resources for special needs children in their community and has decided to take that opportunity to make a change. Rachel is a mother to two young boys; Ethan, her 4 year old son with ASD and James, his 17 month old brother. Rachel has founded Sensory Beans, a parent-engaged, sensory gym where children of all ages and abilities are able to interact with one another and are able to strengthen bonds within their community.

With the generous pro bono help of Pryor Cashman, a law firm in New York City, Sensory Beans has become incorporated and is a 501 (c)(3).  The Partners at Pryor Cashman heard the mission of Sensory Beans and knowing that they were raising money to find a lawyer, offered to provide their services free of charge.  Pryor Cashman has helped to build the organization based on the mission of it’s directors.  Sensory Beans will be the first open-play, sensory gym on Long Island.  Sensory Beans is based solely on tax deductible donations.  One hundred percent of donations received go directly to supporting their mission.  They are currently raising money to help secure a location that will be easily accessible to both Nassau and Suffolk County residents and to obtain the specialized equipment that will be used within the gym.

"All children are not alike, but all children like to have fun.  Our hope is that families will connect with other members in their community, and build a support team.  In a time where bullying has such an impact on our children, we hope that typically developing children will come to Sensory Beans and learn to appreciate and support one another, despite their differences.  We want to provide all children and their loved ones with a judgement free zone where they can play and explore in their own way.  A place where a parent can engage their child or children, and no one feels left out.  Siblings that have special needs as well as typically developing children can play together.  Where everyone is free to be themselves!" said Rachel Roslow, President of Sensory Beans.

Every child is unique and needs a place where they can be themselves without feeling judged or excluded. Sensory Beans is dedicated to bringing children of all abilities a sensory gym where they can use functional play on specialized equipment that will foster both socialization and play skills.

The Board of Directors at Sensory Beans has a very strong link to the special needs community and believe strongly in the mission of Sensory Beans.  Visit them at the Merrick Street Fair on September 26th and 27th. They will also have a resource booth at the Walk for Autism Speaks located at Jones Beach on October 4th.
