Valentine's Fun with Pinterest

By Eileen Diener February 7, 2016
I wanted to try something different this year with the kids instead of buying the typical cards sold at the stores. Needless to say- there are so many ideas, that I started a Pinterest board just for Valentine's. Feel free to join me HERE.

Stay tuned for an update and pics of what I finally decide. Just putting it out there...I am not a crafty person!

But I may try this treat for the kids- Inside Out Chocolate Strawberries inspired by Laurie Corbett, Publisher Mom, South Shore Boston who had written this article for us a few years ago!

Looking for an easy, delicious treat for your Valentine, or little Valentines, that sneaks in a little healthy food along with the chocolate? If so then this is the treat for you!

What you need:
  • Strawberries
  • Chocolate - we used dark, semi-sweet and white. We used about 2 oz per 6 strawberries. You can use any chocolate that you want! Be creative!
  • A plastic egg carton that has been thoroughly washed, or a deviled eggs plate
*Note - Do NOT use a cardboard egg carton since there is no way to clean it after you take the eggs out!

 What you do:
  1. Wipe the strawberries down with a damp paper towel. Rinsing strawberries in water causes them to absorb some of the water and not be as flavorful.
  2. Cut off the top of the strawberries, and use a small spoon (we used a 1/4 tsp measuring spoon) to scoop out the white part inside the strawberry.
  3. Use a paper towel to dry out the inside of the strawberries a little. This will help the chocolate stick better to the strawberries.
  4. Melt the chocolate in a small glass bowl in the microwave. Start with 30 seconds, stir and return to the microwave for 30 second intervals until the chocolate melts.
  5. Pour/spoon the chocolate into a zip-top plastic bag, squeeze out all the air and zip shut.
  6. Use a pair of scissors to cut off one of the corners of the bag.
  7. Pipe the chocolate into the holes in the strawberries, let set and enjoy!
